RAINFORESTATION NATURE PARK

At the award-winning Rainforestation Nature Park, you'll get to experience indigenous culture, Australian native wildlife and World Heritage listed rainforest all on one site. Set on 100 acres (40 hectares) in the midst of World Heritage rainforest, this unique tourist attraction is situated five minutes from Kuranda Village, and half an hour by coach from Cairns in Tropical North Queensland.

Directions from Cairns to Rainforestation:-Departing Cairns accommodation, travel North on Sheridan Street.
-As you pass the airport on your right, Sheridan Street becomes the Captain Cook Highway. You will soon cross the Barron River Bridge.
-Continue through the Machans Beach, Holloways Beach and Yorkeys Knob and Caravonica roundabouts.
-At the Smithfield roundabout turn left onto the Kennedy Highway, passing Smithfield Shopping Centre on your right and join the Kuranda Range.
-You may wish to stop at Henry Ross Lookout for a scenic view of Cairns and the coast.
-From Henry Ross Lookout, continue on the Kennedy Highway for approx. 5 km, and you will see a sign indicating a right hand turn off for Rainforestation.

RAINFOREST HABITAT WILDLIFE SANCTUARY

The Rainforest Habitat is a wildlife park of the future and world leader in mixed immersion exhibits. It is situated in Port Douglas, Tropical North Queensland, Australia, on eight acres of land that has been recreated to provide a window into our natural environment. Visitors can wander through three different and unique environments that depict numerous species of the surrounding rainforest, wetlands, and grasslands.

LocationThe Rainforest Habitat is located at the entrance to Port Douglas, 50 minutes north of Cairns along the scenic Captain Cook Highway coastline. From Port Douglas, the park is located 6 kilometres from the main street.

AUSTRALIAN BUTTERFLY SANCTUARY

Australian Butterfly Sanctuary is the largest butterfly flight aviary in Australia, and prides itself on providing a quality wildlife experience in the heart of Kuranda.

The Australian Butterfly Sanctuary's 3666 cubic metre aviary is home to over 1500 magnificent tropical butterflies that are hand reared on the premises. All are local rainforest species, including the electric blue Ulysses and the majestic fluoro green Cairns Birdwing. Both these and the smaller but equally colourful species, provide visitors with the unique experience of being surrounded by these habitually elusive wonders of nature.

CAIRNS WILDLIFE DOME

Imagine discovering the secrets, sights and sounds of rainforest wildlife - right in the heart of Cairns!

Cairns Wildlife Dome is a spectacular all-weather wildlife exhibit enclosed by a 20 metre high glass dome on top of Cairns' iconic Reef Hotel Casino.

Cairns Wildlife Dome is one of the only Cairns attractions to be conveniently located adjacent to the Cairns Convention Centre and the major 5 star hotels.

Cairns Wildlife Dome enables you to appreciate and understand the rainforest in more detail, offering a quality Australian wildlife experience that promotes education and understanding of rainforest ecology. It is an amazing introduction to the Wet Tropics Rainforest in the Cairns area.

You'll be immersed in a replicated rainforest environment whilst birds such as parrots, cockatoos, lorikeets, doves and rosellas fly freely around you. Get up close to cute rainforest wallabies as they roam freely through their enclosure. Observe curlews, frogmouths and kookaburras along with other animals such as frogs, turtles, pythons, freshwater crocodiles, lizards and adorable bettongs.

Getting There

Cairns Wildlife Dome is situated on top of the Reef Hotel Casino, corner of Wharf& Abbott Streets in the heart of Cairns, one block from the Esplanade. Entry is via the lifts in the foyer of the Casino, adjacent to the Vertigo Bar.
